Name: Justin Wiedman
Instagram: @jweeds_420
Justin (you might recognize from Instagram as @jweeds_420) initially sparked our interest due to his carefully curated Instagram feed full of weed nugs and macro shots of concentrate that were so beautiful, they could make your mouth water. But Justin’s passion for cannabis culture extends beyond his Instagram and into his hobbies and even career. Plus, with a last name pronounced like “weed-min”, Justin was destined to have cannabis play a vital role in his life. The cannabis advocate actually works as a Budtender in Colorado, and was recently included in Green Entrepreneur Magazine’s Top 25 Budtenders of 2019. In his downtime, Justin shoots a variety of content from lifestyle to product photography (hence, the aesthetically pleasing Instagram feed).
This month, we got the chance to pick Justin’s brain on all things cannabis while getting to know a little bit more about him. Check out the exclusive interview below.
How long have you been smoking weed? What’s your favorite strain?
I started smoking weed around 17 years old. My favorite strain right now would have to be Gelato Cake!
What’s your favorite thing to eat after a smoke sesh?
I love to eat chips after a good smoke sesh.
Flower or oil? What’s your go-to?
Lately my go-to has been oil. Nothing beats a fat rosin dab!
So you work in a dispensary in Denver–what’s it like? What would you say to someone looking to get into the industry?
Working at a dispensary is extremely rewarding in the sense that I get to help so many people on a daily basis. Whether you're looking for relief, or just to get high, there is a product and suggestion for everyone. For anyone looking to get into the industry, there is no better time than now. This community offers endless opportunities and will only continue to expand.
As a content creator, how has COVID-19 and quarantining influenced the content you make?
As a content creator, the only way COVID has affected my work is through motivation. I have not changed the way I do anything, but finding the energy to set up a display and create anything has been pretty difficult during such stressful times.
What advice would you give to someone looking to become an influencer in the Cannabis space?
For anyone looking to become an influencer in the cannabis space, I would say the world is yours. It can be very difficult at times, but being able to build a brand and help spread knowledge and awareness in an exploding industry is super exciting.
When did you get into photography? What are your favorite things to shoot, other than weed?
I have always loved photography, even as a child. I would want to take pictures of everything, especially when attending live events. I began to really pick things up about three years ago after moving to Colorado and starting my cannabis journey. When I'm not shooting buds or products, I am shooting different sporting events for my friends.
Any photography tips for aspiring photographers?
As a self taught photographer, the only advice I can suggest is to never stop learning. There is so much information available to help anyone get started or progress that there is no reason not to take full advantage of it.
What’s something not many people know about you?
Not many people know that I have had this dream to build a name for myself in the cannabis community since 2013. There is still a note in my phone saying I was going to work with weed since before it became legal.
Any new, exciting projects or plans we can expect to see from you in 2021?
I am very excited to have finally launched my new website Cannabis Influencer & Strategist | jweeds420 which will hopefully allow me to connect with my followers on more of a personal level. On my website you can find my original content, get to learn more about myself and my journey into the cannabis industry, connect with the brands I work with, and enter for a chance to win exclusive prizes. I am extremely grateful for the support I receive everyday, and look forward to continuing to build with you all!
